I never understood circumcision. I don’t understand why anyone would ever willingly hurt their child like that.

“To be like Daddy”- If your kid sees his junk he’ll first notice hair, not foreskin.

“It’s in my faith” And what if your kid decides to change his religion? You cut off a part of his body for what YOU believe in. He may or may not agree with you!

“He should look like other kids in the locker room.” Less and less parents are getting their kids circumcised. The rate is around 55% right now, so either way he’ll fit in.

Some more facts:

• The foreskin is not functionless Many people call it a “useless piece of skin” but it does serve a purpose. The head of the penis is naturally moist, like the inside of your cheek. When the foreskin is missing, the head of the penis dries out and keratinizes, which is a fancy word for becomes calloused. This means that it becomes less sensitive because it is dried out.
• That “tiny snip” results in an index card piece of skin by the time the kid is an adult
• Many circumscions go bad. Infants who get anesthesia can die from it. Frequently the healing does not go as planned and it can result in “skin bridges” that connect from the head to the former foreskin.
  These generally require more surgery. Other healing complications, such as infection can also set in. A penis infection is not a good thing!
• Sex! When a foreskin is removed, the male clit goes with it. It may make you uncomfortable but your kid will have a sex life, hopefully a good one. Where the foreskin connects the the bottom of the penis is a bundle of nerves called the “frenulum” that is generally removed when the foreskin is removed. This is sometimes referred to as the male clitoris.
• Sex can be more painful for his future partners. The foreskin allows the penis to move forward and backward with reduced friction on the anal/vaginal opening. Removing it can make sex more painful by increasing the friction.
• It is HIS body. Ultimately, circumcision is a procedure that cannot be undone. While there are some treatments, the frenulum can never be replaced. You are removing parts of a kid’s body. Shouldn’t he get a say in the matter?
